What is Animal Emergency and Specialty Center?
Animal Emergency and Specialty Center (AESC) provides emergency and specialty services to dogs and cats in Northern Ohio. We work together with your family veterinarian to give your pet the best care possible. Our emergency service is available for those unexpected emergencies that occur when your veterinarian is not open. Our specialty doctors are here to help you and your veterinarian when more advanced diagnostics, treatment, or surgery is needed.
What is a Specialist?
Not every veterinarian that has a special interest in an area of veterinary medicine is a specialist. A specialist is a veterinarian that has undergone additional, after graduating from veterinary school, training in their particular specialty. For most specialists, this involves a 1 year internship and a 3 year residency similar to what is done in human medicine. At the end of the residency program, these doctors must pass a rigorous test to become board certified in their specialty area. Dr. Alsup and Dr. O'Keefe are currently the only board-certified veterinary specialists based in Lorain County (Dr. Boddy is also a board-certified specialist based in Mahoning County).
We are AAHA Accredited
As an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association, we are dedicated to providing excellence in small animal care. Our hospital is evaluated regularly by AAHA to ensure that we meet or exceed the association's standards of excellence. AAHA standards are recognized around the world as the benchmark for quality care in veterinary medicine.
